Shivers down the spine

The world seems sane and ordinary
and effect follows cause
in predictable procession
until, one day,
we start to pray - I mean really pray
-approaching the Lord of All
with deep-felt need and heart afire
and above all, that divine confidence
there there really is
one who listens and cares.
And then there's the tingle in the spine,
as time slows down,
and without our will or knowledge,
words form that seem to respond to what we are saying.
Not heard, not seen,
just there in consciousness,
like gold bars, laid silently within us.
And as we turn our eyes outward,
nothing is the same,
a new dimension has come into being
which alters every meaning,
every feeling,
every plan.

  1. Beautifully expressed Jenny.I am a member of the Society of Friends and as you know we sit in silence until one feels the need to minister. I have experienced this feeling of getting to my feet to minister without a clear idea of what I must say, and the words just come from within me. Very powerful.
